The Falmouth Genealogical Society (FGS) was formed in 1985 when several individuals who shared a common interest in genealogy and family history met at the Falmouth Public Library. The initial members wanted to give local genealogists an opportunity to participate in educational programs by bringing in well-known speakers and professional genealogists and sharing the results of their research with one another.

Founding members of FGS were Eleanor Baldic, Margarite and Milt Riley, and Paul Bunnell.

During their first year in existence, the officers were:

  • 1st President - Eleanor G. Baldic
  • 1st Recording Secretary - Marcia Schwidenbach
  • 1st Corresponding Secretary - Ann Tavares
  • 1st Treasurer - Marge H. Riley
